Tihar is five days of lights, Laxmi Puja, Deusi Bhailo and Bhai Tika. It is also a season of messages: greetings to everyone you know, and a more personal invitation to brothers and sisters for Bhai Tika. Here is wording for both.

Bhai Tika invitation wording

Bhai Tika is the day sisters put the seven-colour tika on their brothers and pray for their long life. Families often gather at one house, and cousins travel across the valley, so a clear invitation helps.

यस वर्षको भाइटीका हाम्रो घरमा हुने भएकाले सबै दाजुभाइ दिदीबहिनीहरूलाई सपरिवार निम्तो छ।

Deusi Bhailo programme wording

Clubs, schools and tole groups often plan a Deusi Bhailo evening. Their cards need a time and a clear purpose, especially if money raised goes to a cause.

Tips for Tihar cards

• Name the day you mean: Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Puja or Bhai Tika, not just “Tihar”.

• Newar families celebrate Mha Puja and Nepal Sambat new year in the same week; add a line if it applies.

• For Bhai Tika, the saait matters, so add it once the calendar is out.

Messages for each day of Tihar

• Kaag Tihar: काग तिहारको शुभकामना! शुभ समाचार मात्र आओस्।

• Kukur Tihar: कुकुर तिहारको शुभकामना! हाम्रा वफादार साथीहरूलाई माया र सम्मान।

• Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja: लक्ष्मी पूजाको हार्दिक शुभकामना। धनधान्यले घर भरिपूर्ण होस्।

• Govardhan Puja and Mha Puja: गोवर्द्धन पूजा तथा म्ह पूजाको शुभकामना।

• Bhai Tika: भाइटीकाको हार्दिक शुभकामना! दाजुभाइ दिदीबहिनीको माया सधैं रहोस्।

A Tihar card for a whole family

Many families send one card for all five days, with a family photo and a line such as:

It is simple, personal and easy to share with everyone in your contact list.

Bhai Tika wording for sisters and brothers who cannot meet

When brothers and sisters are in different cities or countries, some families do Bhai Tika over a video call at the saait. A card that says so helps everyone be ready at the same time:
