What goes on a Tihar card?
A Tihar card carries a Deepawali greeting such as शुभ दीपावली or तिहारको हार्दिक शुभकामना over diyo, marigold or rangoli art. A Bhai Tika invitation adds the sister or family hosting, the day in the Bikram Sambat calendar, the tika saait and the address.
Tihar runs over five days, from Kag Tihar to Bhai Tika, so a card can greet for the whole festival or invite for one day only. Most invitations are for Bhai Tika, when brothers travel to their sisters’ homes.

- Laxmi Puja: an evening gathering, a puja or a card party at home.
- Govardhan or Mha Puja: Newar families invite for the self-worship on Nepal Sambat new year.
- Bhai Tika: the tika saait, the sister’s address and a reply link for brothers coming from far.
- Deusi Bhailo: a programme card for a tole, club or school night.

- What is the Nepali greeting for Tihar?
- Common greetings are शुभ दीपावली and तिहारको हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना. Newar families often add Nepal Sambat new year wishes, नेपाल संवत् नयाँ वर्षको शुभकामना, because the new year falls during Tihar on the day of Mha Puja.
- Can a club or tole make a Deusi Bhailo programme card?
