What is a Nepali wedding card?

A Nepali wedding card, or biheko card (बिहेको कार्ड), is the invitation a family sends to announce a wedding. It names the bride and groom and both sets of parents, gives the date in the Bikram Sambat calendar alongside the Gregorian date, lists each ceremony with its time and venue, and opens with a blessing appropriate to the family's tradition.

Today most families send a digital biheko card: one link, opened on a phone, that carries the same wording as a printed card and also collects RSVPs. Bihekocard makes that card free, in Nepali or English, in about ten minutes.

What goes on a Nepali wedding card

Wording varies by family and tradition, but almost every card carries these nine things. Bihekocard's templates already have a place for each one, so you only replace the sample text.

A blessing opener. ॥ शुभ विवाह ॥ or a Ganesh invocation for Hindu weddings, Bismillah for a Nikah, Ik Onkar for Anand Karaj, Tashi Delek for Buddhist weddings, or a scripture line for a church wedding.
Both families named. Nepali cards traditionally invite on behalf of the parents, so the card names the bride's parents and the groom's parents as hosts.
The couple's names, usually the largest text on the card, often in Devanagari with an English line beneath.
The date in both calendars, for example वि.सं. २०८३ फागुन १४ गते, शुक्रबार with the AD date under it, plus the tithi when the family follows it.
The saait or lagan time, the auspicious hour set by the family priest.
Each ceremony on its own line or page: Mehendi, Haldi, Sangeet, the wedding itself, and the Reception, each with its own time and venue.
Venue names with directions. A Google Maps link saves guests a phone call, which matters when the party house is down an unmarked lane.
An RSVP line, so the family can count plates. On a digital card this is a button rather than a phone number.
A closing request, such as तपाईंको उपस्थिति नै हाम्रो खुशी हो (your presence is our happiness).

Bikram Sambat dates, tithi and Devanagari numerals
