Nepali New Year falls on Baisakh 1, usually in mid-April. It is a time for greetings to family, friends, customers and colleagues, and many people look for a new year card with their own name on it rather than a forwarded image.

Other new years in Nepal
Nepal marks several new years, and a card is welcome for each:
- Nepal Sambat new year, on Mha Puja during Tihar, for Newar families.
- Losar: Tamu, Sonam and Gyalpo Losar, for Gurung, Tamang, Sherpa and other communities. See the Losar card guide.

New year card with your name: a simple layout
- Heading: नयाँ वर्ष २०८४ or Happy New Year 2084
- A photo, your logo, or a spring motif such as rhododendron (लालीगुराँस)
- One or two lines of wishes
- Your name, family name or business name at the bottom
Keep the year number correct and large. It is the first thing people check.

When to send the card
Send it on the morning of Baisakh 1, or the evening before if you want to be among the first. Business cards can go out a day or two early, especially if you are announcing holiday hours or a new year offer.
Bikram Sambat new year in one line
If you want to explain the new year to friends outside Nepal, one line on the card helps: “Nepal celebrates the new year of the Bikram Sambat calendar on Baisakh 1, which falls in mid-April.” It is a simple way to share the tradition with colleagues and friends abroad.
