What goes on a Nepali New Year card?

A Nepali New Year card carries the greeting नयाँ वर्षको हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना with the new Bikram Sambat year, for example नयाँ वर्ष २०८४. It names the sender, a family, a school or a business, and often adds a short wish for health, peace and progress in the year ahead.

When the card is an invitation, it also gives the day, the time and the venue of the gathering. The Nepali New Year falls on Baisakh 1, in mid-April, so the card shows both the Bikram Sambat date and the English date beneath it.

Greeting or gathering

  • A greeting card needs only the wish, the year and your name or your organisation’s name.
  • An invitation adds the programme, the time, the venue and a reply link.
  • Businesses and schools often add a logo and one line of thanks to customers, parents or staff.

Your name on every card

Type your name once and it sits under the greeting in a large hand, in Devanagari or English. Change the photo, colours and wording on the canvas, then share the card as a link or download it as an image for your status.

FAQ

Nepali New Year cards: common questions

What is the Nepali greeting for New Year?
The usual greeting is नयाँ वर्षको हार्दिक मंगलमय शुभकामना, meaning warm and auspicious wishes for the New Year. Cards add the Bikram Sambat year, such as नयाँ वर्ष २०८४, and sometimes a line wishing health, happiness and progress.
When is the Nepali New Year?
The Nepali New Year is Baisakh 1 in the Bikram Sambat calendar, which falls in mid-April, usually on the 13th or 14th. The card shows the Nepali date first and the English date beneath it.
Can I make a New Year card for my business or school?
Yes. Put the organisation’s name where a family name would go, add a logo as an image, and write one line for customers, parents or staff. The link can be shared in groups or posted as an image on social media.
