Whether it is a bihe ko card, a bratabandha card, a school programme or a class 11 or 12 writing exercise, a Nepali invitation card (निमन्त्रणा कार्ड) follows the same basic format. Learn it once and you can write an invitation for any occasion.
The Nepali invitation card format
- मङ्गलाचरण (blessing): for example ॥ श्री गणेशाय नमः ॥
- शीर्षक (heading): the occasion, such as शुभ विवाह or वार्षिकोत्सव
- निमन्त्रणाको मुख्य भाग (main text): who is celebrating what, and a request to attend
- मिति र बार (date and day): in Bikram Sambat, sometimes with the English date
- समय (time): the saait or programme time
- स्थान (venue): the place with the area
- निमन्त्रणाकर्ता / निवेदक (host): who is inviting
- सम्पर्क (contact) or RSVP: optional, but useful
Formal cards use respectful verbs such as पाल्नुहुन, उपस्थित भइदिनुहुन and सादर अनुरोध गर्दछौं.
Example 1: bihe ko card (wedding)
A full bihe ko card adds more: both families, the tithi, the janti departure time and separate lines for each ceremony. See the Nepali wedding card wording guide for a complete example.
Example 2: school programme (for students)
This is the format commonly practised in class 11 and 12 Nepali and English writing.

Invitation card in English format
The English format follows the same order:
- Occasion heading
- “We request the pleasure of your company at...”
- Name(s)
- Date, day and time
- Venue
- Host
- RSVP
Common mistakes
- Missing the weekday: many people check the day, not the date.
- Mixing formal and informal verbs in the same card.
- Spelling mistakes in names: always check with the family.
- No venue details: add the area or a landmark.
Invitation card vs invitation letter (निमन्त्रणा पत्र)
People often search for निमन्त्रणा पत्र नमुना when they need a letter rather than a designed card. The difference:
- Invitation card (निमन्त्रणा कार्ड): short, designed, no salutation or signature needed. Used for weddings, bratabandha, pasni, birthdays and festivals.
- Invitation letter (निमन्त्रणा पत्र): addressed to a person or office, with a salutation (श्रीमान् ...ज्यू), a subject line (विषय: निमन्त्रणा सम्बन्धमा), the body, and a signature. Used for chief guests, officials and formal programmes.
Invitation letter example
Tips for students writing an invitation card in an exam
- Draw a simple border so the answer looks like a card, not a paragraph.
- Write every part of the format in order: heading, main text, date, time, venue, host.
- Keep it short. Examiners look for the format and correct, polite language, not length.
- Use a realistic date, day, time and place, and sign off with the organiser’s name or title.
- If asked in English, use “We cordially invite you...” or “We request the pleasure of your company...”.
Make your invitation card online
Once your wording is ready, you can turn it into a real card in minutes. Browse invitation cards for every occasion or all templates, type the names and the date (the Nepali date and tithi fill in by themselves), paste your text and share one link on WhatsApp or Viber, or download a PDF to print.
